Wedding photography is one of the rare good careers in photography. It is also a fun challenge for amateurs to try to do something creative at a wedding where a professional has been hired to get the essential photos.
All wedding photographers are competent users of state-of-the-art equipment, but the great ones are distinguished by their people and posing skills. Wedding photographers work with models that they’ve never met, wearing clothes that they didn’t pick, under lighting conditions established by a whimsical God, all while watching the minutes between the ceremony and the reception tick away. This photography resource guide includes information on how to take the best wedding pictures and photos. It also includes example photography of brides in their wedding dresses, wedding ceremonies, and best men.

In February last year I was looking around an entire gallery of competition winners and one thing that struck me was the fact that I struggled to find an image that hadn’t been heavily Photoshopped. Don’t get me wrong, there were some amazing images there and quite deservedly so but it got me thinking about what makes an image good!
I change my mind from one day to the next as to what makes a photo really good. One day I get annoyed at those heavily manipulated images that seem to be all the rage with many photographers these days and the next day I am loving them, processing and creating them myself! Read more »

The Need for Camera and Multimedia Insurance – A good photographer friend of mine recently had all of his back up photography kit stolen including a top end DSLR and lenses…during a wedding shoot! Far be it from me to judge, but leaving it in your car, although well covered and in the car park of a very posh restaurant, is just asking for trouble.
However, that news hit me like a freight train as I realised I had no camera insurance whatsoever and my car has my photography website address splayed all over it which is basically saying “Come and break into me, I have expensive gear inside!”…nobody ever has though. Read more »

The Future of Photography – Since its birth and for around 100 years, photography hasn’t really changed that much if you think about it. You had a box with a lens attached which streams light in and records it onto a film plane and now onto a digital sensor.
In Ye Olde days of film cameras, the only things that changed with regards to technology were the lens quality and the mechanics of the camera itself, the shutter, the exposure system, the speed etc, the recording media (film or emulsion) hasn’t really changed too much over time, especially towards the end, not when you compare it to digital and its rapid advances. Important: Keep a Diary

One thing that I have learned along the way is to keep a diary of all events and job possibilities when running a photography business. Double booking is a no-no especially when it comes to wedding photography.
If you are just starting out it is all too easy to simply try and remember what bookings you have, even if it is just 2 or 3. This is when problems could arise.
Unless you have your bookings and even enquiries written down, you could fall victim to a double booking and this could harm your reputation and ultimately your business. Read more »
