Wedding photography is one of the rare good careers in photography. It is also a fun challenge for amateurs to try to do something creative at a wedding where a professional has been hired to get the essential photos.
All wedding photographers are competent users of state-of-the-art equipment, but the great ones are distinguished by their people and posing skills. Wedding photographers work with models that they’ve never met, wearing clothes that they didn’t pick, under lighting conditions established by a whimsical God, all while watching the minutes between the ceremony and the reception tick away. This photography resource guide includes information on how to take the best wedding pictures and photos. It also includes example photography of brides in their wedding dresses, wedding ceremonies, and best men.

In February last year I was looking around an entire gallery of competition winners and one thing that struck me was the fact that I struggled to find an image that hadn’t been heavily Photoshopped. Don’t get me wrong, there were some amazing images there and quite deservedly so but it got me thinking about what makes an image good!
I change my mind from one day to the next as to what makes a photo really good. One day I get annoyed at those heavily manipulated images that seem to be all the rage with many photographers these days and the next day I am loving them, processing and creating them myself! Read more »

A picture is worth a thousand words. Nowhere else is that more true than on eBay! For example, recently two cuckoo clocks sold on eBay. One had a nice clear picture. The other had a fuzzy picture with a dark contrasting background.
The two clocks sold for vastly different prices. Can you guess which one sold for more money? Of course – the one with the nice picture! It sold for nearly double the price of the other clock.
Which clock was the better clock? I’ll never know. All I know is the owner of the clock fetching the higher price had a much better picture! Read more »

Children can be captured on film successfully in many different circumstances and locations. For most children, getting their photograph taken is fun and they will perform for the photographer. This in turn brings their personality to life on film.
There are a few simple steps to successful child photography besides the usual photographic skills.
Take the photograph from the child’s level. Avoid standing toweringly over a child when taking their photograph; keep the camera at about eye level of the child. Read more »
