The Need for Camera and Multimedia Insurance – A good photographer friend of mine recently had all of his back up photography kit stolen including a top end DSLR and lenses…during a wedding shoot! Far be it from me to judge, but leaving it in your car, although well covered and in the car park of a very posh restaurant, is just asking for trouble.
However, that news hit me like a freight train as I realised I had no camera insurance whatsoever and my car has my photography website address splayed all over it which is basically saying “Come and break into me, I have expensive gear inside!”…nobody ever has though. Read more »

A picture is worth a thousand words. Nowhere else is that more true than on eBay! For example, recently two cuckoo clocks sold on eBay. One had a nice clear picture. The other had a fuzzy picture with a dark contrasting background.
The two clocks sold for vastly different prices. Can you guess which one sold for more money? Of course – the one with the nice picture! It sold for nearly double the price of the other clock.
Which clock was the better clock? I’ll never know. All I know is the owner of the clock fetching the higher price had a much better picture! Read more »

The danger with the internet is that when a “photographer” with a newly built website, is possibly someone who has just taken up photography, bought themselves an overly expensive and professional camera and then maybe stumbled across a great photo or two! They then learn how to do a few tricks or manipulations with editing software such as Photoshop and “Da-Naa” they are a professional photographer. Read more »

Make sure your portfolio only shows your best images!! If you have ‘deer in the headlight’ eyes caused by the pop-up flash, throw it out! As well as any studio shots with bad shadows on a backdrop or basically any badly exposed images (out-of-focus shots scream amateur a million miles away no matter how cute Suzy Q looked in it!)… ACTUALLY, if you are still producing these types of shots then rethink starting your business until your shots become business worthy!
